ISSUE 101 | MAY 2024

May is here with our 101st edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

As we embark on our next 100 editions of the MBE Business Magazine, we can only hope, our next 100 is just as successful as our first 100.

Not so sadly, it is time to say goodbye to April. We can only hope the age old adage “April Showers bring May flowers” comes true. April came with lots of rain and cool temperatures, it was not the start to spring that Southern Ontario was hoping for.

Some important days for the month of May are as follows: Orthodox Easter is Sunday May 5th also known as Pascha, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This feast illustrates the core of Christian faith and is regarded as the transformation of humanity through Christ's death and resurrection. Thursday May 9th is Ascension Day which is a significant Christian event observed to honour the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, marking the culmination of his earthly life and mission. This day commemorates the physical departure of Jesus from his apostles, 40 days after his resurrection on Easter.

The second Sunday in May will forever be linked to Mother’s Day. Falling on May 12th, Mother’s Day in Canada is a time for showering our beloved maternal figures with gifts, cards, flowers, and other expressions of gratitude, reinforcing the importance of recognizing and cherishing the remarkable women that enrich our lives with their unwavering care and support. Monday May 13th is Yom-HaAtzmaut, also known as Israeli Independence Day, marks the declaration of independence of the state of Israel in 1948. This day exhibits a spirit of patriotism and unity among Jewish populations across the globe. Its observance includes a variety of cultural events, traditional food, and activities reflecting Jewish and Israeli heritage. Praying for peace and prosperity of Israel is also an important aspect of this day.

Monday May 20th is Victoria Day which commemorates the birthday of Queen Victoria, the first monarch of both Canada and the United Kingdom. The day aims to honour the Queen's role in Canada's federation and her continued presence as a symbol of unity and stability. Canadians hoping to take advantage of the spring weather with families and friends, organize picnics, barbecues, and recreational outings as a way to embrace Canada's unique cultural heritage. Typically, Victoria Day falls on the Monday on or before May 24 (May two four) serving as a long weekend and a welcome respite for many Canadians in anticipation of the summer season ahead.
