ISSUE 105 | SEP 2024

September is here with our 105th edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

With September comes the unofficial end of summer and the start of kids going back to school. The balmy nights of July and August are replaced with the cool nighttime temperatures of September. The hours of sunlight are diminishing, with autumn just around the corner. August left us with a mixed bag of weather—warm temperatures, sunny days, and rainy days, with rainfall almost mirroring what we saw in July. Let’s hope that when autumn arrives towards the end of September, the weather will extend summer with a dose of an Indian summer. Keep your fingers crossed!

Some Important Days for the Month of September Are As Follows:

Labour Day: Celebrated on the first Monday of September as a public holiday. Many shops, banks, businesses, and government buildings remain closed. First celebrated in 1894, it coincides with Labour Day in the United States. This day in Canada commemorates workers' rights and serves as a reminder of the progress made over the last 150 years. It honours the contributions of workers and highlights the advancements achieved in labour rights and conditions.

Ganesh Chaturthi: Also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha. It will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7, in 2024. It is celebrated for ten days straight, starting from Shukla Chaturthi (the fourth day of the moon's waxing phase) to Anant Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day of the moon's waxing phase) in the month of Bhadrapad as per the Hindu calendar.

The Autumnal Equinox: The first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere takes place every year on September 22nd or September 23rd. In 2024, the Autumnal Equinox will occur on September 22, at 08:44 A.M. EDT. This day marks the moment when the sun is directly above the equator while moving from north to south and also the astronomical beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. The season will last for approximately 89 days and 20 hours, ending on December 21.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Also known as Orange Shirt Day, is observed on September 30th. As it is a public holiday, some shops and businesses will be closed, as will public services such as banks, government offices, and Canada Post. It is a day to remember the victims of the Indian residential school system.
