November is here with our 119th edition of the MB Business Magazine.
Hello November and Good Bye to October. No surprises weather wise in October. The autumn chill was in the air for most of the month with fall jackets being worn. Mixed in with the occasional reminder of the beautiful September weather we had, some October days carried with it, shorts and T shirts wearing weather. With the beautiful summer days now in our rear view mirror, winter is just around the corner.
Some important dates for the month of November are as follows:
The whole month of November is also called Movember. It’s a global movement to raise awareness and funds for men's health, particularly for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's mental health and suicide prevention. The name is a combination of mustache, "mo," and "November". The event involves men growing mustaches throughout November, all the while, raising money to support men's health initiatives.
Saturday the 1st, is All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows' Day (Hallow is an old English word that means holy or saint) is a Christian observance held on November 1st every year, the day after or All Hallows' Eve. It celebrates all saints of the Christian church. All Saints' Day is a holy day of obligation, which means that Christians should attend mass on this day.
Sunday the 2nd is All Souls' Day. However, it is shifted to the next day if November 2 falls on a Sunday. All Souls' Day is a Roman Catholic celebration where people pray for the deceased and the souls that remain in purgatory (the intermediate stage before reaching heaven as per Catholic theology). Through prayers and masses, this sacred observance seeks to sanctify and purify these souls, ultimately guiding them to heaven.
Sunday the 2nd is “Spring forward, Fall back”. The first Sunday of November (Saturday night) marks the time when Daylight Saving Time ends, and the clocks go backward one hour at 2 a.m. This means that the days become shorter, and it becomes dark earlier.
Tuesday November 11th is Remembrance Day. A day used to honour the sacrifices made by the military servicemen and women in World Wars I and II and the conflicts after that. Commonwealth member states, observe it at the 11th hour on the 11th day of November. On this day, a two-minute silence is observed as a mark of respect for all the soldiers lost in the line of duty.
Friday the 28th is Black Friday which takes place on the Friday after U.S. Thanksgiving, which falls on the fourth Thursday in November. It marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season in the United States, bringing a whirlwind of deals and discounts. Although an American shopping experience, Black Friday now has a life of its own in Canada as well, signifying the start of the holiday shopping experience.
