ISSUE 118 | OCT 2025

October is here with our 118th edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

September was a continuation of the delightful end of summer we experienced in Southern Ontario. Temperatures during the day were in the mid-20s with lots of sunshine while the mornings and evenings had a slight chill. A great way to cap the end of summer. With autumn officially here, the countdown to spring 2026 has officially begun.

Some important dates for the month of October are as follows:

The whole month of October is known as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to educate the people about Breast Cancer.

Wednesday the 1st is the start of Yom Kippur. It means “Day of Atonement” in Hebrew. It is the single holiest day of the Jewish year and marks a time for atonement. This somber day of fervent prayer and fasting ends the 10 days of the High Holidays, or “Days of Awe,” which begin with Rosh Hashanah.

Sunday the 6th is the beginning of Sukkot and ends on the evening of Monday, October 13th. Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, is an agricultural celebration to give thanks for gathering the harvest. The week-long holiday also commemorates God's protection of the people of Israel when they left Egypt.

Shemini Atzeret begins at sunset on October 13 and is immediately followed by Simchat Torah (Rejoicing the Torah), which begins at sunset on October 14 and ends after nightfall on October 15. This holiday marks the conclusion of the annual cycle of Torah readings and the beginning of a new cycle. It is a joyous occasion filled with singing, dancing, and festivities.

Thanksgiving in Canada is celebrated on the second Monday of October (13th). Canadian Thanksgiving has a rich history and story behind it. The roots of Canadian Thanksgiving can be traced back to 1578 when a group of English explorers led by Martin Frobisher landed safely in the present-day Canadian province of Nunavut.

Thanksgiving is an official holiday in Canada. However, Prince Edward Island (PEI), Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia do not observe any holiday on Thanksgiving.

Diwali will be celebrated on October 21. Also known as Deepawali, it is the Indian Festival of Lights celebrated for five days during the Hindu month of Kartika.

Halloween is observed globally on October 31st and is a popular celebration loved by people of all ages. There are parties held everywhere and people dress up in Halloween costumes for work or school. Many people, particularly children, choose to dress in spooky costumes in honour of the haunted holiday, parading the streets trick-or-treating.
