ISSUE 92 | AUG 2023

August is here with the 92nd edition of the MBE Business Magazine. July was a warm month. We had our share of days where the temperatures were in the 30’s but nowhere like other parts of the world who were experiencing record heat wave after heat wave. We seemed to have an equal amount of sunny day’s vs cloudy, rainy days.

With August, comes the unofficial last month of the summer. The long summer days tend to get a little shorter. The warm mornings and nights give way to cool mornings and nights. Back to school supplies can be found at all retailers, while families are scheduling a family holiday before kids get ready to go back to school.

There are a few important dates in August that Canadians can look forward to. Monday August 7th is the Civic Holiday which is widely observed throughout Canada to give residents an opportunity for relaxation and enjoyment with friends and family. The holiday sees Canadians engage in various activities to make the most out of the precious time off from work and day-to-day responsibilities. These activities include picnics, fireworks, parades, and cultural exhibitions, showcasing the diverse and colorful heritage of the vast country. Each province and territory in Canada has its unique name for the Civic Holiday.

Tuesday August 15th is National Acadian Day which celebrates the Acadian community with their rich cultural heritage and unique identity in Canada. This observance underscores the resilience, pride, and historic contributions of the Acadians, who are the descendants of French settlers that immigrated to the Atlantic region in the 17th century.

Monday August 21st is Discovery Day which is a public holiday in Yukon, a territory in the far northwest of Canada. This day commemorates the discovery of gold in the region, which initiated the famed Klondike Gold Rush and led to significant historical and economic developments in the area.

Saturday August 26th is Women's Equality Day which is an annual observance that commemorates the struggle for women's rights and gender equality. This important day focuses on raising awareness about the continuing issues of gender discrimination and celebrates the progress that has been made towards women's empowerment.
