ISSUE 93 | SEP 2023

September is here with the 93rd edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

Well that was quick! Where has the time gone? It seemed that summer just started and before you know it, August is gone and September is here marking the unofficial end of the summer. From wild fires to forest fires, the whole country just never seemed to get into the swing of summer. The heat wave that is synonymous with summer never seemed to materialize. Our neighbours to the south and in select European cities certainly had their share of extreme heat alerts while Canada had no such worries. Let’s hope that September can prolong the summer that we seemed to miss out on this year. There are a few important dates in September that Canadians can look forward to.

In Canada, Labour Day is typically celebrated on the first Monday of September. Labour Day in Canada honors workers and their contributions to society. This occasion sheds light on the importance of work-life balance and the need for fair treatment of the workforce. This end-of-summer observance allows Canadians to rejuvenate and prepare themselves for the fall season ahead.

For those of the Jewish faith, September marks three major holidays in the month. Rosh Hashana starts on the 15th and signifies the Jewish New Year. Yom Kippur is next which begins on the 24th and is called “The Day Of Atonement” and the last holiday is Sukkot which begins on the 29th and is the “Feast of Tabernacles.”

St. Matthew day falls on the 21st. The Observance of Saint Matthew is an important Christian event that commemorates the life and works of the Apostle Matthew. Regarded as one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of Matthew.

For those of the Muslim faith, the 27th is Eid Milad un Nabi. This is a significant religious event for Muslims. The observance commemorates the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad, who is the founder of Islam and is revered as the last prophet of God.

The last significant day of the month is the 30th which is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. This day serves as a reminder of the painful historical legacy faced by Indigenous children in residential schools.
