ISSUE 95 | NOV 2023

November is here with the 95th edition of the MBE Business Magazine. As we enter our last full month of Autumn with Winter just around the corner, October has left us with a mixed bag of weather. We had our share of cool fall days while getting spoiled with one week of wonderful warm summer like temperatures during the month as well. It’s not until the first Sunday of the month, when the clocks go back in time (yes, we get an extra hour of sleep) when we wake up to sunlight in the morning, but we are forced to endure driving home at night in complete darkness until the hours of sunlight get longer around late February /early March. Just remember, the start of spring is only 5 months away.

Here are a few important dates in November that Canadians can look forward to.

The month starts with All Saints Day and All Souls day on the 1st and 2nd and the month ends with St. Andrew’s Day on the 30th. All Saints' Day is a Christian festival commemorating all the saints, known and unknown. It is a time to honor and remember the lives, deeds, and sacrifices of these exemplary individuals, and also to recognize the spiritual bond between those in heaven and the living.

All Souls' Day is a Christian tradition observed worldwide in honour of the departed souls, particularly those who have not yet reached heaven. It is a day of remembrance, prayers, and special masses for the deceased. The purpose of this observance is to reflect on the lives of the departed, support their spiritual journey, and seek solace for grieving family members and friends.

The Observance of Saint Andrew, also known as St. Andrew's Day, is a day dedicated to celebrating the life and deeds of Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. Traditionally marked with various festivities, it has significantly grown in recent years, as such, the Observance of Saint Andrew holds cultural, historical, and religious significance for many communities around the world, including those in Canada.

Sandwiched between these Christian/Catholic days is none other than Remembrance Day on the 11th. Remembrantce Day, also known as Armistice Day, is a day dedicated to honoring the sacrifices made by the armed forces and their role in maintaining peace and freedom. Observed in many countries around the world, it is a day to reflect on the courage and selflessness of those men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military. Canadians also traditionally wear red poppies, as symbols of remembrance, in the weeks leading up to November 11.
