ISSUE 97 | JAN 2024

January is here with the 97th edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

From all of us at MBE/RMA Canada, we want to wish all of you a HAPPY and a HEALTHY NEW YEAR and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

As we say good bye to 2023, we say hello to 2024. For those of you who celebrated Christmas, we hope everyone had a very merry Christmas. January is the beginning of the dog days of winter. As we try to find things to do to pass the time until the calendar turns to March, that’s when we know the worst of winter is over and spring is around the corner. Believe it or not, there are some important days in January.

January 1st (New Year’s Day) is a federal holiday. With the odd exception, mostly everything is closed as we relax and try to recover from the festivities from New Year’s Eve and whatever people did to usher in the New Year. January 1st is the time that people make their New Year’s Resolution to start the New Year and hopefully continue with that plan for the many months ahead.

Epiphany, or the Feast of Epiphany, most commonly known as Three Kings' Day, happens twelve days after Christmas, on January 6th. It is a Catholic observance and a day to commemorate the visit that the Three Wise Men paid to Baby Jesus.

As with December 25th, Orthodox Christmas which is held on January 7th, also celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God. This holiday differs from Christmas Day as it places less emphasis on traditions such as Santa Claus, Christmas presents, and the decorating of a Christmas tree. Instead, it focuses on religious customs, liturgies, and traditional rituals such as midnight mass and the nativity of Christ.

Tu BiShvat or the New Year of the Trees will be celebrated on January 24, 2024. Trees are an important element in Judaism that symbolizes life. On this day, Jewish people plant trees and celebrate by dancing, singing, and playing games.

On January 27 the world commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This is a United Nations observance that honors and remembers the tragedy of the Holocaust and the millions of people who lost their lives at the hands of the Nazi government. The 27th was chosen as it marks the anniversary of the date when, in 1945, Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis.

In this issue, you will find contributing articles from many different personalities including the management team of MBE - Mr. Mansoor Naqvi, Mr. Mahmood Naqvi and Mr. Alamdar Hussain.
