ISSUE 114 | JUNE 2025

June is here with our 114th edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

What ever happened to April showers bring May flowers? I guess it missed a month because May brought with it lots of rain and unseasonably cold temperatures in southern Ontario. Temperatures not seen or felt this cold in well over 50 years. If there is some good news with all the rain that fell in May, your grass will be lush and green and your flowers will be blooming. Let’s hope June is better than May because it can’t get much worse. Hopefully warmer temperatures and sunny skies are just around the corner.

Some important days for the month of May are as follows: The Jewish holiday of Shavuot celebrates harvest of first fruits and commemorates the giving of the Torah and Commandments at Mount Sinai. The holiday begins June 1st at sundown and ends at nightfall on Jun 3.

Eid al-Adha begins on June 6th and ends until June 7th. Also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two holiest Islamic celebrations, observed by Muslims around the world. Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah which is the last month of Islamic lunar Calendar.

The D day anniversary is June 6, 1944. At the height of World War II, the Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to fight the German troops in what became known as D-Day. Operation Neptune, as it was formally designated at the time, started the effort to liberate France from German occupation. It was the largest invasion by sea in history.

Sunday June 8th is Pentecost, also known as Whitsunday, is a Christian observance that takes place fifty days after Easter. It has its origins in the Judaism tradition of the Festival of Weeks, but it also commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit onto Jesus's Apostles after his ascension into heaven.

Monday June 9th is Whit Monday which is celebrated on the day after Pentecost every year which marks the end of the 90 days of the Easter Season. That is why it is also known as Pentecost Monday.

Father's Day is celebrated on June 15th. Every year on the third Sunday of June, Father's Day is celebrated across the country. It is a day to celebrate fathers and the crucial role they play in people's lives, from childhood through to adulthood.

The Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere will occur on June 20th at 10:42 PM EDT. It marks the longest day of the year and the arrival of the summer season. Summer Solstice generally occurs between June 20 and June 22.
