ISSUE 115 | JULY 2025

July is here with our 115th edition of the MBE Business Magazine.

Some normalcy finally returned to our temperatures in June. June brought with it an assortment of temperatures. From the occasional extreme weather alert when the humidex reached the high 30’s to average daytime temperatures in the low to mid 20’s, June was, I guess you could say - June. Nothing we haven’t seen or experienced before. Some rain, some sun, a mixture of pretty well everything.

What July has in store for us, no one really knows but whatever it is, we are ready for it. With only July, August and Mid-September left in summer, enjoy what we have left because before you know it, fall will be knocking on the door and we will be left wondering what ever happened to summer.

Some important days for the month of July are as follows:

Canada Day is celebrated on July 1, marking the moment in history when Canada became an independent nation. It is a public statutory holiday observed by all provincial governments. Canada Day was formerly known as Dominion Day, and it is also the national day of Canada. This holiday celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1867, when the United Canada's, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick colonies were merged under the British North America Act to form a unified dominion known as Canada inside the British Empire.

Memorial Day is observed together with Canada Day in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on July 1st as well. Memorial Day commemorates the brave efforts of the province’s veterans, particularly those who participated in World War I.

Nunavut Day, which is annually celebrated on July 9, commemorates passing of two Nunavut acts. The Canadian Parliament passed the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act and the Nunavut Act on July 9, 1993. Nunavut officially split from the Northwest Territories and became a Canadian territory on April 1, 1999.

Orangemen's Day commemorates the Battle of the Boyne, which took place in 1690 outside Drogheda, now in the Republic of Ireland. It is a provincial holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador on the Monday closest to July 12 which this year corresponds to July 14th.
