January is here with our 109th edition of the MB Business Magazine.
To all our readers, on behalf of all the staff at MB, we want to wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy new year. May all your dreams and wishes in the year 2025 come true, and we hope your new year’s resolution comes to fruition as well.
In southern Ontario, December has left us with almost no snow to speak of, along with mostly seasonal temperatures. Maybe global warming will ensure we have a mild winter. Just think, only three months until spring!
Some important days for the month of January are as follows:
New Year’s Day, January 1, has been a federal holiday since 1870. All schools are closed, along with most businesses as well. New Year’s Day is normally a day spent recovering from New Year’s Eve celebrations, which last until the early hours of the morning.
Epiphany, or The Feast of Epiphany, is celebrated every year on January 6. It is a cherished Christian tradition with a very rich history and symbolism. This feast honors significant moments in the life of Jesus Christ.
Orthodox Christmas takes place on January 7. As with December 25th, Orthodox Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God. This holiday differs from Christmas Day in that it places less emphasis on traditions such as Santa Claus, Christmas presents, and decorating the Christmas tree. Instead, it focuses on religious customs and traditional rituals such as midnight mass and the nativity of Christ. Orthodox Christmas is not a public holiday in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, so businesses and schools remain open as usual.
World Religion Day is observed on the third Sunday of January (the 19th in 2025). It emphasizes the unity of all religions and the idea of progressive revelation. World Religion Day promotes harmony and unity among all religions, honoring shared spiritual principles.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, is a United Nations observance that honors and remembers the tragedy of the Holocaust and the millions of people who lost their lives at the hands of the Nazi government. The 27th was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the date when, in 1945, Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis.
